Is your web site accomplishing what it was intended for? If not, maybe it needs a check-up.
Your Web site could potentially be your prospective client's first point of contact, so it needs to be functional, professional, and informational.
If you answer yes to any of the following questions, you may need to do some web site maintenance.
Does your site suffer from poor navigation?
Do you have pages that aren't linked to any other? Does your information progress in a sensible fashion? Does your visitor know where to go and how to get back?
Is there a lack of meaningful content?
Your potential customers visit your site for a reason. Is the information he is looking for readily available? Are they better informed after using your site? Can they readily find out the contact and ordering information? Does the information stay focused on the objective of the site?
Is the existing content out of date?
A site that was last updated 01/12/00, shows that
Is it so good that people will keep returning to see the same thing over and over...
Do you have an inconsistent design?
All of your pages should have your company logo. The backgound and layout should be the same on each page so the visitor knows she is still on your site.
Is the images on your site of poor quality?
Nothing makes a site look more amateurish than fuzzy, jagged graphics. If you are not into graphics, have someone else do them for you.
Does your site take a long time to load?
This means that the file sizes are too large. Images, java scripts and animation, if not done properly take forever to load. Will your visitors wait?
Are there broken links?
Broken links reflect a lack of maintenance. The link should be operable or it should be removed.
Does your site use frames?
Not all browsers can read a site with frames. Search engines have a problem indexing them and they are nearly impossible to bookmark. The use of frames should be avoided whenever possible.
Do you have a visible counter?
Unfortunately a visible counter screams a lack of professionalism. A counter is important for you to track your visits but your prospective customer doesn't need to see it. Many people also realize that you can start thecounter number at whatever number you like.
Above are just a few quick questions to evaluate the inital health of your web site. For further clarification to any of these questions, or if you would like Maui Pacific Design to do a quick evaluation of your site, please send us an email.
